Eat Your Way to Glowing Skin!

We spend endless hours and our whole paycheck on the right solutions to prim & prep our skin to perfection. So why not save a few bucks here and there and concerntrate more on consuming foods that help your skin glow?
As it turns out, the recipe for the perfect complexion doesn’t actually start in the bathroom, where we always thought, but in the pantry, as the ingredients in our food are a prime ingredient in keeping our skin in tip top shape.

Dark Berries

Dark berries, such as raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, are jam packed full of skin clearing antioxidants, and the goodness doesn’t stop there. These berries will also assist in regular insulin production due to their high level of fibre.

Peppermint

Try swapping your daily cup of coffee (or two — guilty!) with a steaming cup of mint tea, and see if you can notice a difference in your skin… The basic element in mint leaves, menthol, lowers oils from your sebaceous glands in the facial region, meaning a couple of cups of mint tea per day may be just the ticket to oil-free and glowing skin. Well, it’s worth a try!

Nuts

Is your skin going completely nuts? Well balance it out with some… Nuts! Deficencies in minerals like zinc and selenium have been link to acne, which is why nuts (particularly pumpkin seeds & brazil nuts) are a good snack as they contain these active minerals.

Tomatoes

A little known fact is that tomatoes are actually very rich in Vitamin C — move over orange! Vit C helps to keep your skin firm and taut by aiding collagen production, and an antioxidant that’s found in tommys called lycopene also improves the skin’s natural SPF! How good! It’s no replacement for real sunscreen though, so you’ve still got to slip, slop, slap on your next park day.

Dark Chocolate

Good news for choccy lovers! Dark chocolate is actually rich in something called cocoa flavanols — a plant compound that hosts antioxidant properties, meaning it will keep your skin hydrated and improve your circulation.

Sardines

There’s nothing fishy about this Mucho hack! Did you know that our favourite little swimmers, sardines, contain 1.5 grams of omega-3 fatty acids per serving (approx 2.5 ounces)? This makes them one of the best sources of fat, and fatty fish is particularly rich in a type of omega-3 called DHA — an anti-inflammatory. Inflammations is known as the root cause of acne, meaning packing your diet with sardines (and omega-3 rich foods, including salmon) can keep your skin clearer for longer. Winning!

Romaine Lettuce

This is a simple one to sneak into your daily diet. Just six leaves of romaine lettuce provide more than 100% of your daily intake of vitamin A, which revitalizes skin by increasing cell turnover. Lettuce all rejoice!

Strawberries

Strawberries are another heavy weight in the vitamin C game, with just one cup of these pretty little berries containing 130% of your daily value of vit C. Eating a few strawberries a day will boost your skins production of collagen fibres, meaning they’ll help keep your skin smooth and firm.

Water

C’mon — surely we don’t have to fill you in on this one! Obviously clear skin starts from within, and one of the most effective (and certainly the cheapest) ways to get there is to help your body flush out toxins by drinking plenty of water. Now put that SKII cream back on the shelf!
