This occurs because of a leaky valve that is unable to shut properly, enabling gastric juices to climb their way up the pipe. Bitter taste<\/h3>\n<p>Acid that escapes into the back of your throat can leave a nasty, bitter taste on your tongue. This is known as water brash. In extreme cases, it can lead to patients waking up choking.<\/p>\n<p>If that happens\u2014especially at night\u2014you should see a doctor.<\/p>\n<h3>5.
