{"id":5568,"date":"2026-01-24T16:11:43","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T14:11:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/?p=5568"},"modified":"2026-01-24T16:11:43","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T14:11:43","slug":"study-links-common-water-additive-lower-iq-development-birth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/?p=5568","title":{"rendered":"Study Links Common Water Additive To Lower IQ Development Before Birth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A damning new study is shedding light on the potential adverse effects of fluoride exposure, showing a link between the toxic chemical and IQ levels.<\/p>\n<p>Conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Toronto, the <span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-127\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-112\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span>study analyzed \u201c300 sets of mothers and children in Mexico\u201d over the span of 12 years.<\/p>\n<p>The results were startling, showing \u201ca drop scores on intelligence tests for every 0.5 milligram-per-liter increase in fluoride exposure beyond 0.8 milligrams per liter found in urine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Possibly even more important is that the potential reductions in intelligence were only found during the prenatal stage (prior to birth), whereas post-birth children saw \u201cno significant influence\u201d from the chemical.<\/p>\n<p>This lends credence to the notion that babies in the womb are susceptible to outside influences, despite what intuition may tell us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildhood exposure to fluoride is safer than prenatal,\u201d said Howard Hu, lead author of the study and founding dean at the University of Toronto, \u201cThere is pretty good science now to support the fact that the fetal system tends to be more sensitive to environmental toxicants than once the child is born.\u201d<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-121\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the researchers measured fluoride levels by measuring the amount found in the mothers\u2019 urine, as opposed to other studies which simply test levels found in local water supplies.<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-118\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-130\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In Poland, a separate study using a similar measuring method found that fluoride levels in water were slightly lower than those found in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5569\" src=\"http:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/fluoride-warning.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"739\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/fluoride-warning.jpg 739w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/fluoride-warning-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/fluoride-warning-436x300.jpg 436w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"SandboxRoot env-bp-350\">\n<div id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"EmbeddedTweet EmbeddedTweet--edge EmbeddedTweet--mediaForward media-forward js-clickToOpenTarget js-tweetIdInfo tweet-InformationCircle-widgetParent js-enableExperiments\" lang=\"en\">\n<article class=\"MediaCard\n           MediaCard--mediaForward\n\n           customisable-border\" dir=\"ltr\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"MediaCard-media\">\n<div class=\"MediaCard-widthConstraint js-cspForcedStyle\">\u00a0\u201cThe levels in this population that were measured in urine were high, but not crazy high,\u201d said Linda Birnbaum of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, \u201c\u2026There have been similar findings related to exposure to fluoride and IQ from children in China. So this observation or association has been reported before.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Hu\u2019s findings are interesting given the American government\u2019s decades-long campaign in support of fluoride in the public water supply.<\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control has described water fluoridation as one of the top health achievements of the last century.<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-155\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-145\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Originally, the decision to intoxicate the water supply was to improve the public\u2019s dental health\u2014a strange proposal that suggests the American people are incapable of brushing their teeth everyday.<\/p>\n<p>Putting aside the inherent condescension of such a government program, the CDC claims that cavities in children and adults have plummeted by 25%.<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-152\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Would you prefer a drop in cavities or a drop in IQ?<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe you can just adopt better dental hygiene\u2014either way, Hu\u2019s study adds more evidence to a growing pile exposing the potential health risks of fluoride exposure and consumption.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-147\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span>In China, a separate study showed that fluoride can become a neurotoxin at unusually high levels, with some measurements taken in the country showing up to 30 milligrams of the chemical per liter of water.<\/p>\n<p>Hu added that despite the alarming results, more research is needed to help confirm them,\u00a0\u201cIt needs to be reproduced in other populations by other scientists.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A damning new study is shedding light on the potential adverse effects of fluoride exposure, showing a link between the toxic chemical and IQ levels.
