The study, conducted by Swiss researchers, suggests that the common painkiller may have deadly consequences.<\/p>\n<h3>The Study<\/h3>\n<p>The study\u2019s findings<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-113\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-132\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-133\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"div-gpt-ad-davidwolfe_com-medrectangle-4-0\" class=\"ezoic-ad ezfound\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>were presented at the European Society of Cardiology congress in Barcelona. All 444 participants involved in the trial of three different NSAIDs either had evidence of heart disease or were at an increased risk of heart disease. Through the study, researchers found that celecoxib, commonly sold under the brand name Celebrex, slightly decreased systolic blood pressure over a four-month period.\u00a0Both naproxen and ibuprofen were found to increase blood pressure, raising the risk of both heart disease and stroke. <span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-127\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-112\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span>Ibuprofen led the pack\u00a0significantly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5312\" src=\"http:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/ibuprofen-750x581.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"581\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/ibuprofen-750x581.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/ibuprofen-750x581-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/ibuprofen-750x581-387x300.jpg 387w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Frank Ruschitzka<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-135\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-136\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-146\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span>, professor of cardiology and head of the department at the University Heart Centre, Zurich, led the study. He said, \u201cThe study clearly demonstrates that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), particularly ibuprofen, may be not as safe as previously thought. Patients receiving ibuprofen had a 61% higher incidence of hypertension compared to those receiving celecoxib.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor Ruschitzka explained that decreasing blood pressure by even a small amount could lower both stroke and heart mortality by 10% and 7%, respectively. He estimates that lowering patients\u2019 blood pressure could help prevent over 70,000 deaths from stroke and 60,000 death from coronary heart disease each year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5313\" src=\"http:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/painkillers-2525087_1280-840x560.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/painkillers-2525087_1280-840x560.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/painkillers-2525087_1280-840x560-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/painkillers-2525087_1280-840x560-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/painkillers-2525087_1280-840x560-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A spokesman from Arthritis Research UK said, \u201cLong-term use of NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, can increase the risk of problems with your heart or circulation\u2026 You shouldn\u2019t take ibuprofen for long-term pain relief without seeing your doctor first.\u201d\u00a0Arthritis Research UK also noted that ibuprofen, one of the most widely prescribed drugs <span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-121\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span>in the world, is taken by many arthritis sufferers.<\/p>\n<p>Associate medical director at the British Heart Foundation, Professor Jeremy Pearson, praised the study\u2019s findings.
