According to the British Medical Journal,<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-126\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-111\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span> doctors found 27 contact lenses in a patient\u2019s eye while she was being prepped for surgery.<\/p>\n<p>The lenses were clumped together in a \u201cblueish mass\u2026 bound together by mucus\u201d in the 67-year-old patient\u2019s eye. Rupal Morjaria worked on the patient. She said the patient was shocked to learn of the discovery. \u201cWhen she was seen two weeks after I removed the lenses she said her eyes felt a lot more comfortable,\u201d Morjaria explained.<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-127\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-112\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Morjaria said she chose to publish the casebecause most doctors didn\u2019t believe it was possible for someone to lose so many contact lenses in their eyes without suffering from severe symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4278\" src=\"http:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/contact-eye.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"705\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/contact-eye.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/contact-eye-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/contact-eye-768x541.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.loveforhealthyfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/contact-eye-426x300.jpg 426w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The patient had been<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-141\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-115\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span> wearing disposable contacts for 35 years.\u00a0During that time, she rarely visited the eye doctor. When she developed cataracts, doctors scheduled surgery. They discovered the lenses while they were injecting anesthesia into her eyes for the surgery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was such a large mass,\u201d Morjaria explained. \u201cWe were really surprised that the patient didn\u2019t notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while it was sitting there.\u201d<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-139\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-143\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-116\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-137\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-138\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span>Henry Leonard, Association of Optometrists clinical and regulatory officer, said, \u201cPatients do sometimes present with a contact lens stuck under their upper eyelid, particularly if they are new to contact lens wear, or have problems with dexterity, but finding this many lenses stuck in someone\u2019s eye is exceedingly rare. They suggested that her \u201cdeep set eyes\u201d may have been a contributing factor. They immediately postponed the cataract surgery after making the discovery. Morjaria explained that the patient had a high amount of bacteria in her eye from the lenses.
